Encounters

I worked with the V&A Research Institute on their research programme Encounters on the Shop Floor as an Educator in Residence. My role was to investigate and experiment with how to introduce making into the Museum. With the programmes focus on embodied and tacit knowledge production, my residency was shaped by engaging young people in recontextualising museum spaces to allow for a multi-modal experience of developing learning and understanding.

Over the course of nine months, I worked alongside colleagues in the V&A and Museum of Childhood, and artists, makers and musicians. Working with young people, parents and guardians, schools and colleges across the country, I worked to develop a pedagogical framework for embodied and tacit making.

What was delivered

During the nine months of the residency, including three months to complete and write up research, I designed, delivered and evaluated nine youth based workshops, both inside the museum spaces and within schools. Often in collaboration with makers, artist, other national organisations and universities we worked to deliver making skills to young people to allow them to engage in cross curricular learning and embodied engagement with museum spaces.

As part of this residency I also co-produced a series of blog posts for the V&A website;

I also represented the V&A at a Policy Connect panel event alongside Tristram Hunt and Helen Charman.

Additionally I presented my findings from the residency at an international symposium at the V&A and co-wrote a chapter for an upcoming UCL Press publication.
